A Step-by-Step Guide For A DIY Honey Hair Mask

Ever get tired of dry hair? Or does your hair need a boost? I got something that could work for you! A honey hair mask could do the trick to make your hair shiny and healthy again. And to make it even better, it is easy, cheap and eco-friendly! It will only cost around 10 euros in total if you do not have all the ingredients or tools on hand. But most things you can already find in your home, so also not much waste will be created. This mask will help you to hydrate your hair, so it is especially helpful if you have dry or frizzy hair. Within 15-20 minutes, you can help out your hair, let’s get to it!

Here is a list of what you’ll need to make this hair mask.

Tools:

  • Small bowl for mixing
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Old towel to cover the mask
  • Old t-shirt

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup raw honey
  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • (optional) 3 drops lavender oil

Step by step

  1. Measure the honey

This step can get a bit messy since honey is very droopy, but try to get 1/4th of a cup of honey in your mixing bowl.

  1. Mix ingredients

Now add the oils to the honey. You can use just olive oil, but you can also use some lavender oil for a nice smell. Lavender oil is also good against dandruff. Mix this with a spoon or spatula.

  1. Brush hair

Honey can be quite sticky, so to prevent any difficulties it is smart to brush out your hair before applying the mask. The mask can then work its magic the best.

  1. Put down a towel to protect the floor

Because we are working with honey and oil, it is likely it will cause some dripping. Make sure you put a towel beneath you to prevent anything staining your floor. Also wear an old t-shirt so your clothing doesn’t get stained by the oils.

  1. Apply the hair mask

The best way to apply this mask is with your fingers. Pour some of the mixture gently on your head and work from the scalp to the ends of your hair.

  1. Put your hair in a towel

To let the mixture sit, wrap your hair in a towel. Do be careful to use an old towel, since the mask can cause an oil stain.

  1. Let it sit

Now, we wait for 15 minutes. While the mask is working to hydrate and heal your hair, you can do any other activity in the meantime. Some reading or listening to music is what I usually do to pass the time. You can also read this article to get some inspiration to upcycle your clothes if you do end up staining them. That way you don’t have to throw them away!

  1. Remove it

After the waiting is done, you can wash the mask out. In a shower, or with your head in a sink, you can use hot water to thoroughly rinse it out.

  1. Finish with your regular hair care routine

Once you have rinsed it out, you can continue with your regular hair care routine. Some shampoo and conditioner will take the last of the mask out of your hair that you might have missed.

Hope this guide will help you to give some extra love to your hair! Use this mask once a week to see the most results, especially if you want to hydrate your dry hair. And it is also a nice way to take care of your hair while also taking care of the planet. Just be careful not to spill anything on your floor and make a mess, which has been the hardest challenge of this mask for me.
